Kelcie Sagen, the 2009 Regatta Queen. "The Astoria Regatta Festival has been known for over 100 years as a celebration that unites the community. It not only brings our community together, but it brings people from throughout the Pacific Northwest to our beautiful region. I am Kelcie Sagen the 2009 Astoria Regatta Queen and for me the Regatta has not only been a unique and enriching experience, but it has been a tool to help me build friendships and create bonds with a variety of people. Although, the Regatta has been a time consuming and at times stressful experience; the growth that I have gained along the way has made it all worth it. I have not only grown personally, but I have grown in my ability to speak publicly and act in a more poised manner. I became a part of the regatta as a junior in high school and am now leaving as a freshman in college. Since my start in Regatta I have grown into an almost completely different person and a portion of that growth is due to my time spent with the Regatta. I would not have my friendships with the courts or my relationships within the community if it were not for my participation in Regatta. The Regatta is something that you can’t quite comprehend until you have been a part of it and I am grateful that I was chosen to represent our community in this way. I am extremely proud of Courtney, Rachel, Riley, and Pilar and I know that any one of them would make an amazing queen. I am so appreciative of all of the experiences and relationships that Regatta has given me and I leave you now as a more mature and responsible young woman. Thank you!"
